The gentleman was diligent in political affairs, tireless in teaching, and therefore had many scholars coming to his door.

先生虽忙于公事，而能积余暇，与儒生论道德，论诗文，以为捉刀之石，砥砺之杵也。

Although busy with public affairs, the gentleman was able to accumulate leisure time and discuss ethics, poetry, and literature with scholars, serving as a sharpening stone for their pens and a grinding rod for their minds.

先生好学，博览群书，兼通医卜，尤精音律，每有雅乐，辄自奏之。

The gentleman was fond of learning, well-versed in various books, skilled in medicine and divination, and especially proficient in music. Whenever there was a performance of elegant music, he would play it himself.

先生有诗名，而不务诗赋之作，常有兴而为之，故其篇仅三十余首，而皆高妙脱俗，清新脱俗。

The gentleman was famous for his poetry, but did not focus on writing poetry and essays. He only wrote thirty or so poems, all of which were brilliant, unconventional, and fresh.

先生性至孝，每以母训子之言自劝，所至之处，必延一至二日，以侍奉之。
