原文:丙辰夏六月,庚寅朔。此时天气炎热,日头晒得人热血沸腾,正是三国历史上著名的赤壁之战发生的时候。

翻译:It is the sixth month of the summer in the year of Bingchen, on the first day of the lunar month, which is a hot and sweltering day. It is also the time when the famous Battle of Red Cliffs took place in the history of the Three Kingdoms.

江口夜行,火见因章,十分狼狈。伏波山下,初见云梦,此地古称武昌。《吴都赋》:“昔我往矣,杨柳依依。今我来思,雨雪霏霏。及至行迈,蓬蒿生生。野径云俯,草色鲜鲜。”山行六七里,渐入佳境;林奥幽深,涧隐幽鸣,而松柏夹道,水萦石旁,自非傲岸不妨峻拔,自非柔荑难以穿插。其中有一石,双峰对峙,峥嵘峻拔,耸壑崩绝。夜色漆漆,如墨如漆,不知其高,登攀其上,视之则下,颓垣废井,光影之间,熙攘不一,或如憔悴渴臍之形,或如湍泻波涛之状,或如镜中之人,或如月上之潮。其潜移默化之妙,,乃夫子所以咏怀,而归之乎道德,观乎天地者也。

翻译:We travelled by boat at night and saw the fires of our enemies. We were in a state of great distress. We arrived at the foot of Fubo Mountain and saw the clouds and mists of the region of Yumen. This place was formerly known as Wuchang. In the 'Ode to the Wu Capital', it says: 'In the past, when I went there, the willows were weeping. Now, when I think back, the rain and snow were falling heavily. As I walked further, the weeds grew thick. The path leading to the mountains was covered in cloud, and the grass was fresh and green.' We walked for six or seven li and gradually entered a beautiful landscape. The forest was dark and deep, with the sound of a hidden stream. The road was lined with pine and cypress trees, and the water flowed by the rocks. The trees were neither too proud nor too soft, and they grew tall and straight. Among them was a rock with two peaks, which was rugged and steep, with deep gorges and cliffs. In the dark night, it was as black as ink, and we could not see how high it was. When we climbed up and looked down, we saw ruins and abandoned wells. The light and shadow were intertwined, and it was hard to distinguish one from another. Sometimes it looked like a withered and thirsty person, sometimes like a turbulent wave, sometimes like a person in a mirror, and sometimes like the tide rising on the moon. Its subtle and profound beauty is what the Master praises, and he relates it to morality and the observation of heaven and earth.

岂惟稼穑之艰难而独不见其功?有木有枝,有枝有叶,有叶有荣;此荣之离土之类也。彼将之纷纭,变化莫测,而又何常之有?故万物并作而不相害,道并行而不相悖。小德川流,大德敦化;此圣人之所以为天下先也。夫焉知其所止?有盖有陷,有陵有谷,有生有死;此生之徒也。人之所以能,猶有待焉;苟无闵乎其所未善,作或不成。若夫树木,何止於行?以彼为椽,此为楹,曾木之门,以为栋梁,不宜大作,何以成其数?故曰:前人之述备矣。

翻译:Not only do we see the difficulty of planting and harvesting, but we also see its achievements. There are trees with branches, branches with leaves, and leaves with glory; this glory is like that of plants that grow out of the soil. They are diverse and ever-changing, and there is no constant in them. Therefore, all things can coexist without harming each other, and the way can be followed without being contradictory. Small virtues flow like a river, and great virtues transform like alchemy. This is why the saints are the leaders of the world. Who knows where it will end? There are ups and downs, hills and valleys, and life and death; these are the followers of life. Humans can only achieve their goals by constantly striving to improve themselves. If they do not pay attention to what they lack, they may not succeed. As for trees, they are not just meant to grow. They can be used as beams and columns, and even as the main structure of a door. However, they should not be overused, otherwise, how can they be preserved? Therefore, the ancients have described this well.
